You Can't Have It All

... this is what i wore two days in a row ... busy bee i am right now ... vintage cardi: thrifted in the usa // 50s cotton skirt: made in berlin store // belt: primark // 80-90s boots: flea market // vintage 'puss in boots brooch: ebay // 50s wicker purse: flea market // 50s hat: ebay ...

sorry, for my unplanned absence last week but the past days were pretty exciting and filled with decisions, hopes and new things .... first thing: we found a new bigger flat which costs almost the same rent as the place we are living in now! the best thing about the new flat is, that dear friends of ours are living in the same building! see me dancing on the table! what's a little sad about moving ... we will move to a total different part of berlin. for sure i will miss to have my favourite vintage shop just around the corner, i have to find good tailor and i won't be close to flowmarkt at maybachufer anymore ... you can't have it all ...

the other new thing in my life are my new glasses! as you might remeber, i was playing around with original 50s frames and i was actually totally into bringing one of them to the optician ... but in the end, i felt not happy with my favourite true vintage frame. somehow it was eating my eyebrows and it was a tinybit too small for my face ... when my husband went last week to a optician shop i stepped over a special offer. Three frames/glasses fro one prize!!! and they had some quite 50s inspired frames in the shop ... so i ended up with this pair and two other ones i will pick up from the store soon. ha, and i can still wear my old frames, my vision didn't changed!

... and my work contract got extended, which is good and bad ... actually i was waiting for some changes that didn't happened. whatever i will be able to pay my rent another year.
and again: you can't have it all.

Inspirations From The Past: Autumn 1941

today's issue of inspiration from the past we peek into the magazine deutsche mode zeitung from august 1941. autumnal wartime fashion. holding this magazine in my hands makes me think about more then wonderful dresses and hats ... the magazine itself is almost falling to pieces but it survived the war, even the patterns are still in it! ... who was the lady who bought it back then? who was she? was she into the nazi party - or not? did her family survive the war?  ... she defenitly did survive - with her the magazines. i bought them from her grand daughter on a flea market a while ago. the family had to empty out her little house after she died in 2013 ...

Follow The Signs ... Finally You Will See Motörhead

after one week my hearing has finally recovered ... so, i was ready to pick out a few of the best (least blurry) pictures from past sunday's motörhead show here in berlin. ... yes, we had backstage passes - thanks to my rock n roll husband - who knows the right people that worked or played that night!

...that day two dreams came true ... the first little one: finally seeing motörhead performing live on stage!!!! dream two needs some words of explenation ... some of you for sure know the documentation 'lemmy'. in this movie the camera follows lemmy quite a lot through long hallways behind the different stages. for some strange reasons it became a my secret dream to go behind him, when he walks to the stage. ... in the end i didn't got the chance to walk behind lemmy to the stage that night - BUT after the show we went behind the stage to get back to our friends ... and suddenly lemmy kilmister appeared in front of me, walking back to his dressing room. this moment i felt so shocked that i wasn't able to grab my camera, i was just following him happily giggeling under my breath ... just two short minutes that felt like a year! wow.
... later we had some beers with the awesome guys from the damned. to me is was a night to remember! somehow i felt a little bit like teenager again.

Cutting It Short

this is what i wore a couple of days ago to work ... vintage knit dress worn as a top: thrifted // 50s skirt: made in berlin store // belt: mango // booties: clarks // bag: modern ...

who follows me on instagram might have seen already a little sneak peak of this outfit ... here it is in full size. sadly the little light that was left that day when i shot those pictures made them just blurry and furry. even if you can't see too much of the lovely details of this wonderful sweater ... i want to leave some words about it. this piece is actually an awesome wiggle knit dress made from wool and cashmere. ... perfect to go out in a cold wintery night. i always dreamed about wearing it to a new years eve dinner ... why didn't i? to be honest: my bum is far too fat for it. sad but true. so this dress was waiting in my closet for some better days ... or a diet. as i know that my wide hips won't ever dissapear and my bum won't turn smaller by getting older - i decided to give the dress a try as a top. the dress/skirt part is still there hidden under the  new look length skirt ... now i think of turning it into a real sweater.
what do you think?

Vanishing

... vintage cardi: thrifted // late 50s dress: made in berlin store // shoes: gifted from my mum // vintage bag: flea market // brooch: me made from vintage decorations  ... the last picture looks like i would slowly vanish to thin air ... sadly i didn't work out ... i'm still here ... hehehe

When There Was No Flea Market ...

this is what i wore this morning to go flea market shopping ... my trustworthy early 50s coat: thrifted // vintage dirndl cardi: flea market // 50s dress: flea market // 50s hat: ebay // red vintage gloves: thrifted // tights: primark // 90s winter booties: vintage shop // purse: old primark ... sadly there was not  only one flea market today ... even the winter markets we went to last year were gone with the wind ...

i have to go, the man and i are out and about to see motörhead playing tonight here in berlin ...i have to change into something more 'rock chick meets vintage me'.

as if this outfit is the only (almost) black and white look i managed to picture during the past couple of weeks this post is linked to

English Grammar Novelty Skirt

... cardi: oooold h&m // knit top: modern no name // 50d novelty print skirt: made in berlin store // vintage belt: thrifted // shoes: flea market // 50s purse: flea market ...

i wore this outfit a couple of weeks ago ... actually i didn't felt like posting those photos, because the photos turned out quite pale and don't show this skirt's actual colour palette and beauty ... but this week i just spent in professional black and white office looks ... so this outfit makes it in today's post.
... i found the english grammar skirt the same day i bought the bollywood novelty print skirt - but this one was 50% off! less then 15€ for a circle skirt full with little lessons of enlish grammar ... each time i wear it i will shoe you a new chapter ...

Back In Action

it's fall and my granny's cape is finally back in action ... vintage escada cape: hand me down // cardi: primark // 70s wool skirt: flea market // vintage belt: thrifted // tamaris shoes: flea market // 50s bag: flea market ...

Hat Investment

... this is what i wore to look at a bigger flat on saturday ... cardi: primark // 50s-60s dress: made in berlin store (altered) // vintage belt: flea market // modern shoes: gift from my mum // tooled leather bag: flea market // 50s hat: rocking chair ...

finally i found a brown hat.  in my world - it was pretty expensive. i spent almost triple of the money i normally would pay on a hat. 'buying hats normally' means, i bargain hats on flea markets! somehow i still feel a little dizzy, when i think about the money but i don't feel any regrets ... i adore allthe hats details, especially i love the original hat pin that came with it.
the way i styled it here may not be the classical way it was meant to be worn - but the hairdo i had this day, was there before and the hat came later ... hehehe. i can't wait to wear it in a different way.

Look, Who's Home ...

... cardi: primark // late 40s-early 50s day dress: rocking chair, berlin friedrichshain // belt: mango // shoes: primark // vintage muff/purse: flea market // 60s ear clips: flea market ...

i have to confess, that my little project 'vintage shopping in berlin' will ruin my money savings ... the two times i finished writing about some of my favourite shops, i felt like needing to check out those again! this week i ended up in rocking chair ... i gave this little cotton dress a new home - and i really feel it's finally home. i love every little detail about this cute cotton number from the early, early 50s ...

Spring In November - Zweiter Frühling

hey, here are some pictures of my beautiful partner in crime (from in the ruins of berlin) and i selling at past sunday's fashion flea market ... it started as a big fun - but it turned out a little sad, because outside the venue spring started all over again and no one wanted to come inside for shopping. i sold a few things and made ok money - but i brought home almost the same amount of stuff as i left with ... and my muscles are still aching from carrieng all the boxes ...
flea marketing is hard work - but i love it. can't wait for next outdoor season!
if you like to see some more pictures of this day, especially some details of this wonderful 40s hat, my partner in crime rocked here ... click here to check out her post.

Inspiration From the Past: Herbst/Winter 1953-54 Part II

today i share the second post with wonderful wintery fashion from 'film und frau - modesonderheft, herbst-winter 1953/54'. i'm a big lover of 50s daily fashion (surprise!) ... especially in the cold season of dresses and tops with long sleaves and made from warming materials (more surprises!). in my dreams i would wear every single piece of this post ... in real life 50s winter fashion is hard to find - or not very comfortable. the fabrics are often super heavy and horribly scratchy ... and hard to clean.
what are your experiences with true vintage winter wear?!
check out part I.
