what i wore ... shrug: primark // 40s dress: schwarze truhe, vintage store berlin // belt: primark // swedish hasbeens: flea market // 50s hat: thrifted in the usa // 50s-60s basket: thrifted // dragonfly brooch: flea market // 60s earclips: flea market // fakelite bangles: flea market ....
on wednesday the gorgeous g. from in the ruins of berlin and i met to visit the big vintage circus. this is vintage fair that is connected to the bread & butter fair and berlin fashion week events.
i was so excited to go to a real vintage fair here in germany ... i hurried home after work to get my hair done and to jump in my precious 40s dress, that i actually just wear to special occasions ... isn't a rare vintage fair special enough?!
the past days the weather already had been quite crazy ... hot and super humid. when i took the outfit shots my make up was running down my face ... then pouring rain came down ... luckily the husband took us girls by car to the fair ground.
... i suppose, we both were pretty suprised not to find a bunch of vintage people in between the fashion and hipster crowd ... and we kind of got scared as the security guy at the door told us that the vintage fair was already removed the day before ... but he wasn't sure about this. so we went in, on the hunt for the vintage circus.
what we found was an empty outdoor fashion play ground with almost no people and an abandoned circus tent with no vintage vendors, no vintage people - just us: two little vintage girls in the drip-drop rain.
frustration! ... we decided to have a couple of drinks somewhere else ...
in the end we had a great evening without talking much about vintage and fashion.
ps.: today i got some information about the abandoned vintage fair from one of the vendors ... on tuesday there was a thunderstorm over berlin - actually they were expecting a tornado - so the police (!!!!) cleared out the outdoor area of the fashion fair and some vendors had to leave their stalls with all their vintage treasures behind ... from the inside they were able to see their items getting ruined by the the wind and rain. what a sad and shocking story!

It sounds like you're having the same weather as us - very odd! Shame about the fair when you'd made such an effort to look lovely. Hopefully they'll reschedule soon. x
What a fabulous 40s look! The dress, of course, is lovely, but what really makes it for me is the accessories. The hat and the perfectly structured shrug and the wicker bag and the little peep toes... I really like how you've recreated the style.
That's awesome that you got to see the abandoned fair grounds, but how sad for those vendors! I'm surprised they didn't get more notice, and get a chance to pack their stuff up.
Oh mein Gott, das ist ja mal ne krasse Geschichte!!! Da wäre ich auch saufen gegangen, hehe ;) Ud echter Mist für die Verkäufer!
A vintage fair sounds like so much fun! This gorgeous 40s dress is perfect for the occasion. I love that floral print on it. Your little hat is super adorable too!

I'm sorry you missed the fair, but you did end up with a pretty amazing picture of the two of you!
Also: this dress is so lovely and divine! :)

What a gorgeous dress! And the shrug is adorable too! I really like how you styled your hair. When it comes to hair, I'm a desperate case…
I totally understand your frustration missing such a special event, and I feel sorry for the sellers who lost their stuff… At least you had a nice evening in the end, so your making up was not completely in vain.
We had a crazy week too, regarding the weather. It was raining all days, our garden was swimming in the end, and it was very cold for July. So at least we can look forward to some decent summer weather these days.
Oh my goodness! how awful for the vendors! thank goodness there wasn't a tornado but still, it's pretty dreadful - I'm glad you two gorgeous gals got to go out in your beautiful clothes though x x x
That really is heartbreaking. It always sender a wave of sadness through my soul when I hear of vintage, let alone lots of it at the same time, being damaged or ruined. Those poor vendors, too, no doubt watching their potential profits quite literally wash down the gutter.

Too bad about the fair and those poor vendors!
But we got to see your precious dress!

Oh I feel for those vendors whose stuff got wet! :(
And for you both for missing the fair...x
Crazy! I'm sorry to hear you missed out on shopping, and the vendors missing out on selling their wares!
But you look darling!

So sad about the vintage fair, but you are wearing a showstopper of an outfit. Thank you for the link to "the ruins of berlin," and for sharing your gorgeous hat with Hat Attack.
You look like the beautiful heroine in a 1940s Hollywood movie. Just gorgeous! Not just the hat, but the entire ensemble.
Absolument superbe, M-T
