Dirndl Season

dirndl me ... early 60s dirndl/trachtenkleid: ebay // belt: from istanbul // wedges: primark // 50s purse: ebay // bamboo bangles: thrifted ... with those wedges i dressed it pretty modern.

dirndl season is close ... means: oktoberfest starts on the 20th of september ... as being NOT a girl from bavaria i'm not very much into oktoberfest things and i never went there - for some strange reasons i started to buy vintage dirndls from the 50s and 60s when ever i was able to get my hands on one during the last couple of years. but, i can't collect everything that's from these eras, so i decided to let some of them go on ebay ...
when i took the pictures of the dirndls i fell in love again with this little 60s dirndl. i will keep it. it is quite short, so it looks pretty girlish ... but i could let the hem out (probably about 6 cm) to make it look more classical.
what do you think? make it longer or keep it as short as it is?

if you got into oktoberfest mood click the link under the picture to get to the auctions

Oh sind die schön, und irgendwie viel schöner als die modernen dirndl, die man heute sieht. ich wette, die Qualität ist ebenfalls besser.

I have been looking for one similar to the blue one for ages now and have yet to find one in my size and price range. I found an amazing embroidered one at a vintage fair a while ago but it was ridiculously tiny, probably intended for a child I think. I love them anyway, and the pattern on yours is lovely.

*Swoon!* I am a massive dirndl fan (and even have a Pinterest board devoted to them) and wish I could come across them as easily here in Canada (in person - the web always houses its share). I like the length that the blue one currently is. Perhaps partnering it with textured tights and a cozy cardigan would be a good way to stay warm during the chillier months in it.

I just love dirndls! I think they are just beautiful, all of them! you could definitely try and let the hem down, or put a longer petticoat underneath x x x

Ahhh I love dirndl dresses so much :') I get excited for Octoberfest every year because it means being able to drink my favorite German beer and eat bratwurst! It probably sounds really clique to you :P
I think the length of this dress is perfect as it is, I think its very flattering!

I really really love vintage dirndles and am eyeing one off at a local vintage shop. Unfortunately they are super pricey here, but I can dream. Love your pretty frocks.

I seem to have expensive tastes, because all of the dirndl that I like are way out of my price range. It seems like it's hard to find more traditional ones - at least here in Chicago, it's all fake beerhall girl stuff. I might have to break my $100 rule to get one.
I love the one your wearing, and I don't think you need to let it down at all (at least not if you don't want to). The length is really nice on you, and the pattern is lovely.
