Modern vs. Vintage

this is what i wore to today's stroll over the two flea markets in the new neighbourhood. leopard spots on the coat and abstract dots on the dress ... new coat: miss candyfloss // early 50s waffle pique dress: mauer park flea market (from the lady from glencheck store berlin) // cardi: h&m // vintage belt: thrifted // boots: flea market // 40s-50s purse: flea market // vintage hat: thrifted // 60s gloves: thrifted // 50s-60s novelty pin: ebay ...

sadly the birthday hubby is sick, so i had to visit the flea markets on my own ... and had to leave the mourning birthday man at home. a few nice things crossed my way and i took them home. propably you will see them soon ...

i got this miss candyfloss coat from top vintage, when it was on 50% off last week. i like the designs of  miss candyfloss but never dared to purchase a piece before. i have to say, i still struggle a little bit with this coat. i really like the design and fit but i was a little dissapionted when i notices the materials ... so vintage the design - so modern the fabrics. the coat is made from fleece and the leopard fur doesn't seem to be too great quality. i'm fine for spending almost a 100€ on it but i would have been sad paying the original price (double)!
i'm eyeing with some dresses for a while now ... even if i prefer true vintage clothes and great old fashioned satorial work to modern materials, i like to have something easy to clean once in a while ... what is your experience with miss candyfloss?

That's sad that the quality of the fabric isn't what you expected. I really love how the coat looks! The fur sleeves and collar are so cute. I also really like the pattern on your dress. Such a gorgeous piece!

I completely understand what you mean about new clothing and the fabrics! That is one of the reasons I hardly buy new! The fabric is so often some sort of polyester and doesn't breathe!! Or it pills up after just a few wears!

I have to say I have not even heard of Miss Candyfloss, but I will check it out!

Das Jäckchen ist sehr hübsch!

That's always my issue when I'm looking at reproduction versus vintage - the style may be there, and sometimes it's a bit easier to wear and clean, but a lot of the time of quality just isn't as nice. But you look really lovely, and I'd say the coat is a pretty great buy for the price.

I know what you mean about new clothes having a lesser quality! I have experienced that quite a lot these past few years.
You look absolutely wonderful by the way! I love that coat so much!

I note this issue with lots of repo, but coats are the worst. They cost of wool fabric is probably way to high these days but fleece? I guess it will wash rather than dry clean. I saw a lady's collectif coat the other day and while being a stunning it was very fuzzy from wear. On the other hand I found a 60 year old coat the other day and it was riddle with moth holes (the bottom part especially so I cut it a little shorter) but the fabric and cut were so great I had to buy it and then spend days on fixing it. I love it so it's worth it and that's al that matters with anything, be it repro or vintage.

Pity the coat fabric wasn't as expected, it looks stunning though.

I've never purchased or received anything from this brand, so I can't comment on it personally (I'll be sure to let you know if that ever changes). It's a beautiful coat and I think it looks awesome on you, but that is a pity about the quality not being as up to snuff as you would have liked. One encounters that time and time again in the fashion world these days.

As a seamstress I am always gutted when I see bad materials used in otherwise nice garment. On the other hand I understand the demand of keeping the costs down, but on the other hand it's failure in design to use poor materials.
Anyways, the coat looks lovely on you. Let's hope it fills your expectations.

Your hat, coat and dress look beautiful!!! I totally know what you mean about new fabrics. It's such a disappointment when you have a beautiful garment made of something horrid. I frequently see gorgeous blouses made from nasty viscose or polyester which I dislike compared to cotton.

Your coat is a stunner! Too bad about the materials; I have not tried reproductions, so it's interesting to hear your perceptions.

You hat is spectacular, as usual. Thank you for sharing with Hat Attack!
